FAQ

What’s a book tracker?

A book tracker is an app that keeps a record of your reading: the books you want to read, what you’re reading now and what you’ve finished, with ratings, reviews and dates. Goodreads is the best-known one. Reading Journey is a book tracker that works like a reading diary: log each reading session with a photo, notes and emoji reactions, rate books with half stars, and look back on how every book made you feel. It works with Goodreads too. Import your Goodreads library in a few taps and sync it again any time, so books you add or rate on Goodreads show up in Reading Journey. With RJ+, Goodreads syncs every time you open the app.

Can I sync with my existing book tracker, like Goodreads or StoryGraph?

Yes. Import your shelves, ratings, reviews and dates under SettingsBring your library. With RJ+, Goodreads syncs every time you open the app. StoryGraph imports from its export file.

How does Goodreads sync work?

Connect Goodreads under SettingsBring your library and Reading Journey keeps track of it for you. New books, shelves, ratings, reviews and reading dates you add or change on Goodreads come over to Reading Journey. Sync by hand any time; with RJ+ it happens automatically every time you open the app. Sync goes one way, from Goodreads to Reading Journey, and only updates what came from Goodreads. Books, reads and ratings you added in Reading Journey stay as they are.

Do I need an account?

No. Everything works on your phone without one. An account backs up your library and lets you sync more devices with RJ+.

Can I use Reading Journey on my iPhone and my iPad or Android phone?

Yes, sign in on both with the same method. A free account syncs one device at a time and can move syncing once a day. RJ+ keeps every device in sync.

What does RJ+ include?

Sync on every device, more than one reading goal, every bookshelf decoration for Home and the widget, and automatic Goodreads sync.

Can I scan a barcode?

There's no separate barcode scanner. Use Scan book cover; if the ISBN under the barcode is in the photo, it's used to find the exact edition.

Where's the reading timer?

The Focus timer starts from a Minutes goal. Set one on Home, then tap Read now.

How do I track audiobooks?

Set the book's format to Audiobook, add its total length, then log time listened, time remaining or a percentage.

How do I get my data out?

Use SettingsExport Library… for a Goodreads or StoryGraph CSV. For a full backup with your journal and photos, contact us.

Can I use Reading Journey with ChatGPT, Claude or Muse?

Yes, Reading Journey supports AI assistants through MCP. Connect ChatGPT, Claude or Muse to your library to add books, organize lists and update progress directly from your agent of choice. Check out the documentation page for more details.

I signed up with Apple or Google. Can I connect an assistant?

Yes. Choose Continue with Apple or Continue with Google on the Reading Journey sign-in page.

Does the assistant connector cost anything?

No. It's free for every Reading Journey account. Your assistant's own plan may limit how many custom connectors you can add.
